Bangalore’s oldest runners’ group focuses on building a healthy community

Health is wealth! However, for Jayanagar Jaguars it is all about health, wealth and heritage. At Jayanagar Jaguars (JJs) they recognize that goals for fitness or any sports are achieved only by proper planning and dedicated training.

They are the largest running academy in India, also offering structured training for sports like cycling, children's fitness, calisthenics. It started 12 years ago when the running buzz was still catching on. Over the years, they have grown to more than 30 training centers across India in Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkata. Their training programs cater to all types of fitness enthusiasts from novice to seasoned, extreme ultra-marathoners, and endurance cyclists, all united under the motto of 'Fitness is Fun’.

Most women think fitness is for somebody who is wearing modern attire like T-shirts and track pants. To break this stereotype that fitness activities can only be performed in modern attire. Jayanagar Jaguars hosted the fifth edition of ‘The Saree Run’ for women on September 18, in which women were invited to run three to five kilometres in a saree.

Pramod Deshpande, the head coach of JJs, said that less than 20 women turned up for the inaugural edition in 2016. But in the fifth edition, more than 2,000 women participated in the event. He also said, “The registration fee for the event was not charged, it was free.” They organized the event through sponsorship by well-known brands.
