Blast in Rameshwaram Cafe leaves four injured

Residents, police and reporters wait anxiously near the cafe while the investigation goes on

Bengaluru, 1 March, 2024: A blast shook the building of Rameshwaram cafe located in Whitefield, Bengaluru today at 1:05 pm. The explosion resulted in the injury of four individuals and the people inside were evacuated within 45 minutes of the incident. Two of the injured have been sent to RxDx Hospital while those who were severely injured were rushed to Manipal Hospital.

A resident in the vicinity said, "I heard a sudden blast sound while I was working in the office. My office is 2km apart and I was shook by the sound."

The investigation is still going on and the authorities are uncertain about the cause of the explosion. However, the bomb squad has been deployed at the scene to assist the investigation. PC Rao, President of the Bangalore Hotels Association, dismissing the initial speculations said, "It is not a gas cylinder blast since there was not much fire and cylinder blasts cause fire to spread easily. The police are investigating."

After hours of investigation, the police and the National Investigation Authority (NIA) have confirmed the blast to be caused by a low intensive improvised explosive device (IED) said Bhaskar Rao, politician and former police commissioner. He also said, "IED, nuts, bolts and sharp nails were found at the place of incident, further investigation will be done."

Rameshwaram cafe is one of the most popular and happening places in Bengaluru.
