Colleges say that they prescribe uniforms for students so that all students
will feel the same about attire. While many colleges in the city have
uniforms for students, some colleges have restrictions on dress, and a few
place no restrictions on the clothing of students.
Some of the students find it cool wearing sarees.
Colleges in Bengaluru define dress codes for students and no one is
complaining about it. Parents are happy that their wards have uniforms and
go to college donned in traditional Indian wear. And students are not
protesting because they find it “cool”.to college rather wearing a
uniform.
This college is asking students to wear a saree three times a week.
Nagarathnamma Meda Kasturiranga Setty Rastriya Vidyalaya College for
Women (NMKRV) is one of them, where students are asked to wear saree.
NMKRV college, BSC - Bachelor of Science department has no uniform,
students are not allowed to wear three-fourth pants, but they are allowed to
wear kurtas.
Students of BA students are asked to wear sarees 3 times a week.
"We don't find it odd, we are okay with it." said one student.
Parents are also fine with their daughters wearing sarees. Those whose
children study in other departments are fine with their daughters wearing
kurtas and with the restrictions on attire in the college.
"I am ok with my daughter wearing a saree. It is like following an Indian
tradition" says the parent of a student who studies BA.
Sivananda Sarma Memorial RV College (SSMRV), this college does not
have uniforms for students. But, they have dress codes to follow.
For the girls, kurtas are compulsory, and jeans are allowed. Short and
sleeveless tops are not allowed. Kurtas are compulsory.
Girls can sport any hairstyle they wish. They may grow their nails. Three-
fourth tops are not allowed.
Vijaya College Main lets its students wear their favorite dresses but they
have rules to follow. They do not have any uniforms. There is no restriction
on dresses for students so far as the pants are full-length.
